A pale, skinny young woman who had hair as short as a fuse, and a pierced nose and eyebrows. She had a wasp tattoo about an inch long on her neck…On those occasions when she had been wearing a tank top, a dragon tattoo can be seen on her left shoulder blade. Her natural hair colour was red, but she had dyed it ivory black…Crooked smile. (Suggested by Anna Bressanin)

And now we begin the long trend of summer posts from rich kids talking about how excited they are for TIH Fest because they can afford to drop hundreds upon hundreds of dollars to travel for a day or two (most of the time across country) to see the show.

Must be nice.

To be fair, this is probably something you could afford if we didn’t go on tour (meaning you’ve had the money, but chose to use it in other ways). I’d take touring any day though.

Better Late Than Never of the Day: Three months after McDonald’s famously vowed to come up with a plan for phasing out sow confinement by its pork suppliers, the fast-food behemoth is making good on its promise.

McDonald’s unveiled on Thursday a 10-year outline that includes a goal by 2017 of only buying pork from suppliers that ”share its commitment to phase out gestation stalls.”

The move follows similar pledges from Burger King and Safeway, both of which buy less pork than McDonald’s.

I decided to get a refurbished one of these which, of course, requires a data plan. Can someone tell me how I know how much data I use or what all uses it? It wouldn’t let me sign up for unlimited for some reason. I’m wondering things like if I download a game, does it only count the data from when I downloaded it or each time I play it? Are there certain kinds of GPS that work with the data plan or do I have to pay extra for AT&T Navigator? Things like that.

AT&T doesn’t offer an unlimited data plan anymore, unfortunately. The good thing is, when you’re on WiFi, it doesn’t count as data usage (since you’re using the WiFi’s data, not a cell tower’s). I think 2 GB should be fine if your home and workplace have WiFi, and I believe that’s the lowest you can go… at least it is for Verizon. Also, since it’s an Android phone, you don’t need to download or buy any special GPS program or app… it should come with Google’s Navigation app by default, which is better than Telenav anyway.

Also, as far as data usage goes, it depends on the app. If you use Facebook, it’s going to pull data from the internet each time you use it (to update your news feed and stuff like that), but it’s a very small amount. I use it constantly on my phone, and it rarely exceeds like 100 MB per month of data usage. Also, remember, if you’re on WiFi, it doesn’t count against your monthly data plan. The things that really suck data are streaming things. Google Music is really awesome to use (cloud music storage), but it uses a lot of data. Fortunately, you can set it to sync certain songs to your phone locally, so it’ll download the song to the phone, and keep it on there unless you uncheck it. If you drive and listen to streaming music a lot like I do though, your data might go quick.

tl;dr - Start with 2 GB a month, and keep a close eye on your usage. Android phones let you monitor how much data you’re using per month, and you can even set it to disable data once you reach a certain amount (that you specify), or warn you when you reach a certain point. I think that should be plenty, but if you see that you’re reaching your warning/limit point quickly, you can always bump up your plan to 4 GB, which is what I use, and I’m about as much of a power user as you can be.

Thank you for all of this! AT&T has 300mb for the lowest one, so I went with that when I ordered the phones yesterday, I’m not planning on streaming music, because I just bring CDs with me in my car, so I think at most I’d be just going to websites once in a while, maybe playing games, and using navigator sometimes. Pretty much, our contract expired so we were able to upgrade our phones for cheap, but almost every option is a smartphone now… I don’t really need it, but it wouldn’t hurt to have, I guess.

It’s good to know that it’ll let me monitor it so I won’t have to pay double per month for going over.

Side note: what does tl;dr mean? Haha. I see that once in a while and I have no clue what it means.

Haha, tl;dr means too long; didn’t read. It’s used when someone types out a whole lot of text and you don’t want to read it all, so you skip to the bottom. Usually it contains a summary of what was said, a conclusion, or it’s just irrelevant and thrown in for humor.
